چکیده

We have developed a method for forming vascular atlases using vascular distance maps and a novel vascular model-to-image registration method. Our atlas formation process begins with MR or CT angiogram data from a set of subjects. We extract blood vessels from those data using our tubular object segmentation method. One subject’s vascular network model is then chosen as a template, and its vascular distance map (DM) image is computed. Each of the remaining vascular network models is then registered with the DM template using our vascular model-to-image affine registration method. The DM images from the registered vascular models are then computed. The mean and variance images formed from those registered DM images are the vascular atlas. In this paper we apply the atlas formation process to build atlases of normal brain and liver vasculature. We use Monte Carlo simulations to demonstrate the reliability of the underlying registration method. Additionally, we explain the clinical potential of those atlases and conduct z -score analyses to compare individuals with the atlases to detect abnor-

Probabilistic Atlas Based Segmentation Using Affine Moment Descriptors and Graph-Cuts

We show a procedure for constructing a probabilistic atlas based on affine moment descriptors. It uses a normalization procedure over the labeled atlas. The proposed linear registration is defined by closed-form expressions involving only geometric moments. This procedure applies both to atlas construction as atlas-based segmentation. We model the likelihood term for each voxel and each label u...

Generating Synthetic Computed Tomography and Synthetic Magnetic Resonance (sMR: sT1w/sT2w) Images of the Brain Using Atlas-Based Method

Introduction: Nowadays, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in combination with computed-tomography (CT) is increasingly being used in radiation therapy planning. MR and CT images are applied to determine the target volume and calculate dose distribution, respectively. Since the use of these two imaging modalities causes registration uncertainty and increases department w...

New Pseudo-CT Generation Approach from Magnetic Resonance Imaging using a Local Texture Descriptor

Background: One of the challenges of PET/MRI combined systems is to derive an attenuation map to correct the PET image. For that, the pseudo-CT image could be used to correct the attenuation. Until now, most existing scientific researches construct this pseudo-CT image using the registration techniques. However, these techniques suffer from the local minima of the non-rigid deformation energy f...

Compensation of brain shift during surgery using non-rigid registration of MR and ultrasound images

Background: Surgery and accurate removal of the brain tumor in the operating room and after opening the scalp is one of the major challenges for neurosurgeons due to the removal of skull pressure and displacement and deformation of the brain tissue. This displacement of the brain changes the location of the tumor relative to the MR image taken preoperatively. Methods: This study, which is done...

An Atlas-Based Segmentation Propagation Framework Using Locally Affine Registration - Application to Automatic Whole Heart Segmentation

In this paper, we present a novel registration algorithm for locally affine registrations. This method preserves the anatomical and intensity class relationships between the local regions. A regularisation procedure is used to maintain a global diffeomorphic transformation. Combined with a novel generic method for accurately inverting the final deformation field, we include our techniques withi...
